Belle was contently walking along when a riot broke out. Men were protesting and the officals were trying to keep them under control, but the screams and yelling told her they weren't doing their job very well. She backed up against a small shoe shop and watching, looking to see for a way out. Her eyes then widened as one of the officers grabbed on of the rioters and pulled him onto a platform. Belle looked away, now desperate for an escape as she heard the crowds calm as the gullotin (sp?) feel down.
OOC: how is that?!

The guillotine. The thing of beauty and perfection. The one thing Martine feared the most. The way the blade came down . . . BANG! Who would be killed today? A duke? A Comte? The King? All these questions very possibly had a yes following closely behind.
Martine dodged through the streets, trying to avoid flailing hands and cheers. She noticed the woman knitting next to the base of the guillotine and she winced. How could they be knitting while another woman's son is cut down? She pulled her cloak a bit closer and turned down a narrow alley way.
"Pardon, ou est la rue Buffon?" asked a young man, a sans coulot Martine could perceive. She pointed north and ducked away before he could look back. Anyone could be dangerous at this time.
OOC: it's great, but I thought only nobles were executed at the guillotine before the Committee for Public Safety, which came after the King was killed. Maybe I'm wrong?

OOC: I dunno...I'm not very verced in this time period, only a bit. But I think that probably a few commoners were killed.
Belle saw the girl and grabbed her arm, pulling her into the shelter of the shop. "I saw you and I figured you were having the same problems as I," Belle said in French. "The officals are closing in, all exits blocked, so until the riot is over..."

Zephyrine was running as fast as she could. She hadn't been doing anything wrong, just walking down the street when suddenly an absolute riot had broken out. Her hair was currently tucked under her hat so that she wouldn't be harassed, but now the officials wouldn't even bother to let her show she was a woman. They were'nt discriminating on who to arrest.
Seeing a shop door, Zephy plunged in. To her surprise, there were two other young women already inside. What if they thought she was a man come to harass them? Zephy pulled off her hat and let her dark hair tumble down. "I mean you no harm," she gasped, and sat down hard.

"Quoi?! What will happen? My father. He will be worried!" exclaimed the frightened yet thankful Martine. Before her question could be answered, a tall figure plunged into the room. At first Martine thought the figure could be a man, but quickly the figure pulled off a hat.
The woman sat down on a firm wooden chair and started to catch her breath. Martine was stunned. She turned to the first woman who had helped her and she sat down too.

After she caught her breath, Zephy twisted her hat in her hands for a few moments and then said, "I'm Zephyrine Mariani. And you are?" She nodded at both of the other women.

Martine didn't know if she should lie or tell her real name. Charrier was a common last name, but who knew how many there were, and how easy it was to track someone down by their last name. Martine just wanted to be invisible through the revolution so she could make back to her home town.
"Martine," was her reply. It wasn't normal to be called only by your first name by a stranger, but Martine didn't know if she could trust these two women. Anyone could be a spy.

"Martine," Zephy said respectfully. "I like that name a lot." She looked over at Belle.
"Do either of you know what just happened?" she asked. "All I know is that somebody was being executed." She shuddered. "I hope it wasn't someone I know."

"That depends. Who do you support? The King or the people? Are you for the Revolution or against. When the time comes to fight for your beliefs, where will you be?" Martine had no idea what had overcome her but she had a feeling she better know fast if she could trust Madame Mariani.
