"You're sure you'll be all right? I don't want you getting into trouble." Roselle's father frowned worriedly down at her, but she smiled as they exited the church.
"I'll be fine," she assured him, "I'll take extra care not to get into trouble, just for you." She grinned. "Besides, Rosaire is the troublemaker, not me, Papa. You know that."
He smiled as well and fixed her cloak for her. "You're a rascal, through and through, no matter what your name is." Roselle opened her mouth to speak again, but he beat her too it. "If you truely promise me you'll stay out of trouble, I see no reason you can't walk home by yourself. God will forgive me for being such an awful chaperone."
Roselle kissed her father swiftly. "Bless you, Papa. Merci!" They parted ways, Roselle making sure to take the long way home.

Ali growled a curse as he slipped off from his horse. With a sigh he came around and inspected the beast's foot. Picked up a rock.
He went around and found his tools in the saddle bags, and set to work.

Roselle watched the man scowl as he set to work cleaning his horse's hoof. "Bonjour, monsieur," she said, coming to stand beside him. He didn't look to happy, so she spoke politely, hoping to avoid getting her head bitten off. "May I offer a suggestion? Your friend's shoe appears to be loose-- he'll pick up more pebbles that way."

Marie sighed. Late, again. And this time there was no Papa to reprimand her for her tardiness. She spotted Father Malcolm and gave him a sweet, apologetic smile before turning away to watch everyone stream out of the Church. As she looked she noticed a rather pained-looking horse standing on three legs to one side of the courtyard, his apparent owner trying to fix what seemed to be a loose shoe. She knew a disgruntled equestrian when she saw one, and gently walked over to give it a reassuring stroke.
"You have a beautiful horse, monsieur- and mademoiselle." she said smilingly, spotting Roselle and giving her the slightest hint of a wink. "He's beautiful." she patted his mane and nose while the rather handsome man repaired his shoe; before smiling again and stepping back from the horse to speak to them both.

Ali gave a half scowl, "Do you see any black smith about?" He made a wide gesture. "I know how to care for a horse, thank you for your concern." He flicked his hair from his eyes, and gave his horse an affeconate slap.

Marie winced a little at his snappish reply, but said nothing of it. Instead she watched him carefully fix the shoe as best he could and straighten up again.
"I did not mean to make you sound incompetent, monsieur." she said levelly, blushing a little. "On the contrary, you seem very experienced when it comes to caring for horses. I know a blacksmith not a little way from here; if you would like, I could introduce you to him. He and my father were old friends, he never fails to fix up Pierre -excuse me, my horse- excellently. I am sure you are aware that walking any distance with a loose shoe would be too painful for our friend here." she gingerly stroked the horse's mane, hoping she hadn't offended the man.

Ali vaulted to his horses back, "Thank you, but MY friend can manage until we are at my cousins' smithery." he clucked to his horse and was off.

She stepped back a little, surprised. He'd seemed offended, and she hadn't said anything... perhaps he thought she was a noble. But she was wearing ordinary clothes...confused, she blinked slightly and looked back at the girl.

Roselle smiled dryly and shrugged. "Perhaps he's not a morning person," she offered.

She laughed. "Perhaps. I don't know many morning people, but he's got to be the grumpiest." She offered the girl her hand, smiling. "I'm Marie."
